A Little West Virginia Humor

A man was doing research for a book on churches and at various places on his trips, he'd come in contact with buildings that had golden phones somewhere on the property.  Each time he inquired, he was told that it was a direct line to heaven and he could make a call for $10,000.  He was just about done with his research and one day he stopped for gas on a back road in West Virginia.

On a whim he walked across the street into an old country church building that need some paint and repairs, and sure enough, as he walked around, there was one of the golden phones in the basement.  He found someone in charge and asked about the phone and was told it also was a direct line to heaven and that a call would cost 50 cents.  He was amazed that he'd found a phone in this place and even more astounded at the price.  When he asked why the charge was only 50 cents, he was told, "Well, it's only a local call from here."
